The amount of sealant required is primarily based on the tire width. Below is a chart of our recommended dosage based on your specific tire width provided in both ISO and standard units.
Our OX1 formulation can be installed through the valve stem. It will be necessary to remove the valve stem core and then administer with the provided tubing on our 4 oz. bottle. If you have a syringe this works well also. We have some how to documents and how to videos on our Tech Stuff page.
The sealant life inside the tire is mainly dependent on riding frequency. The more you ride the more frequently you may need to either replenish or add sealant. For our performance product, OX1, the sealant is constantly applying a thin film on the tire in search of holes to seal. You should probably check the sealant level at 300 mile intervals or 3 months, whichever comes first.
The OX1 product is useful down to 20 oF (-6 oC). You won't catch me riding anywhere near that cold! In the event you do have an Arctic expedition planned, we will be making a colder performance brew that we will release later this fall.
We have performed an initial compatibility test with many of the major brands available. There has been no negative interaction observed when mixing Black OX1 with any of the other brands. Not to toot our own horn too loudly, but when we have done our internal head to head comparisons we have outshined the competitors in performance. Mixing with others could reduce the sealing effectiveness.
The OX1 formulation is compatible with the CushCore material. Although the 4 oz bottle comes with a dispensing tube it is suggested to transfer the sealant to a syringe for installing through the valve. Leave an air gap in the syringe and shake well before dispensing. Alternatively, if you break the bead on the tire you can snake the dispensing tube into the tire and dispense from the 4 oz bottle. There is a "How To Video" on our Tech Stuff page to illustrate this technique.
Absolutely. What happens when you puncture your inner tube with a nail...nothing if you are running Black Ox Sealant. Check out our video on our YouTube channel illustrating a nail puncture in an inner tube.
The sealant is formulated from natural latex. Natural latex is biodegradable. The carbon fiber additives are not biodegradable. We do source the carbon fiber as off material that may have otherwise been slated for a landfill.
